You know how you want your home to feel
but you have no idea how to design it.
You’re definitely not alone. Most people can describe the mood they want (ex. calm, cozy, elevated, bold) but get stuck turning that into actual decisions.
This is what Interior Design Identity™ helps you solve.
Where it started
Like many first-time homeowners, my husband and I bought our house based on the feeling we had when walking through the front door, in all its 1998 glory!
But after updating the floors, painting the walls, and mixing my grandmother’s vintage bench with a mid-century sofa (all with a baby on the way), it still didn’t feel like us.
Pinterest gave me endless ideas, but no way to connect them. Online quizzes boxed me into opposite styles like Cottagecore or Mid-Century Modern, neither of which fully fit and I had to direction on how to blend styles I liked.
I decided to pursue my degree in interior design after nearly a decade in behavioral research studying how people make decisions, especially in high-stakes, high-emotion environments like healthcare.
I started noticing something.
Professional designers don’t chase a specific style.
They design for a feeling and back it with expertise and experience.
They don’t start by asking, “Are we designing Japandi or Modern?”
They start by asking, “How should this space feel when you walk in?”
In research, we’re trained to ask:
What is actually happening?
Why is it happening?
How can we create a path forward?
I began applying that lens to design and everything changed.
I realized the problem isn’t that we don’t know what we like - we usually have a general idea - but that we don’t have a way to filter decisions through our unique values, emotions, and needs.
So I built one.
What is Interior Design Identity?
Interior Design Identity is a psychology-based framework that helps you design your home around how you want to feel, not just how it should look.
It blends emotion, personality, and behavior with the timeless principles and elements of design. It gives you a clear, grounded way to make decisions that feel right, without second-guessing every step.
It helps you:
Discover your personal foundation for interior design
Filter choices through what matters to you, not just what’s trending
Move through overwhelm with clear, confident steps
Build a home that reflects your story—not just your style
Through a 15 question (or less!) quiz, you’ll be matched with one of 8 Interior Design Identities, each based on emotional needs, personality patterns, and how you approach design decisions. Each Identity blends elements from familiar styles but this is about how you want to feel, not a style label.
Laid-Back Stylist
Moody Sophisticate
Bold Visionary
Effortless Minimalist
Timeless Traditionalist
Warm Modernist
Refined Curator
Cozy Collector
For example:
An Effortless Minimalist doesn’t just like clean lines and neutral tones. They crave calm, value clarity, and they want their home to function without constant upkeep. They are thoughtful and detail-oriented but often struggle with perfectionism and decision paralysis. Knowing their Interior Design Identity can help turn that overthinking into a clear filter, so they can make confident choices, simplify the process, and create a home that truly supports how they want to live and feel.
What Interior Design Identity does
As I began working with more clients, I saw the same patterns over and over. Most people weren’t struggling with aesthetics, they were struggling with decision-making.
These aren’t surface-level problems. They are deeper decision patterns shaped by personality, emotions, and how you process your space.
Design Identity helps you cut through the noise, organize your instincts, and take action confidently.
Logic
-
Too many ideas, no clear direction
-
Knowing the rules, but still feeling like something’s off
-
Getting 90% there, then stalling out, unsure how to make it feel truly complete.
-
Overthinking every color, material, or layout option
-
Agonizing over big purchases, worried you’ll invest and hate it later.
-
You and your partner have opposite styles and it feels impossible to blend them without losing what matters to each of you.
Why this matters
Design Identity isn’t just a style quiz. It’s a psychology-driven framework rooted in timeless design principles that helps you:
